Boy O'Carroll by "John Rutherford" (Evelyn Greenleaf Sutherland and Beulah Marie Dix) opened at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle, on 27th April 1906. Martin Harvey played the part of Lieutenant Brian O'Carroll; his wife that of Paudheen.

The first London performance was at the Imperial Theatre on 19th May 1906. He last performed it on 7th December 1918 at Folkestone.
