High Street

High Street, Stonehouse, was originally the road from Plymouth to Plymouth Dock (later Devonport). It was bypassed by Union Street in the early nineteenth century.

The northern side of High Street is largely taken up by the former Royal Naval Hospital and High Street School. The southern side was largely demolished in the 1930s, 1950s and 1960s and rebuilt as high-density housing. High Street Flats, built in the late 1930s were demolished in 2001 and lower-density houses built on the site.
